Honey labels can describe origin, processing, texture or added ingredients. These answers help separate those details so you can choose the jar that suits your kitchen.
What does raw mean?
It describes a producer’s handling approach, commonly with limited heating and processing. Ask the seller for specifics. The word alone is not a laboratory certificate, an organic certification or a medical claim.
Why does honey crystallise?
Honey’s sugars can form crystals naturally. The rate varies by honey and storage conditions. Crystals do not prove purity, and a honey that remains liquid is not automatically fake. Follow the jar’s storage directions and use gentle warming if you want to soften it.
Is creamy honey made with cream?
A fine crystal structure can make plain honey pale and spreadable without dairy cream. Check the ingredients: a honey fusion may contain added seeds, spices or other foods. Balqees UAE fusions use Yemeni Sidr Do’ani as the honey base.
Is raw the same as organic?
No. Organic is a separate certification question. Neither organic nor a named floral source automatically means a honey is raw. Look for the relevant evidence for the claim being made.
Is Manuka always the best choice?
Choose by taste, origin and the information on the exact jar. Manuka grading does not turn food honey into a sterile medical product. For toast or tea, your preferred flavour is a useful guide.
Who needs particular care?
Do not give honey to infants under 12 months. Honey contributes sugar, including for people with diabetes. Check allergies and added ingredients in fusions. Our dedicated child-safety and diabetes articles explain those topics in more detail.
How should I store it?
Keep the lid closed and use a clean, dry utensil. Follow the label and protect the jar from excessive heat and moisture. A mixture made with water, dairy or fresh ingredients needs the storage care appropriate to that mixture; it does not inherit plain honey’s keeping qualities.
