Golden Milk Recipe with Turmeric and Raw Honey

Golden Milk Recipe with Turmeric and Raw Honey

How to make a warming golden milk with turmeric and honey.

Golden milk combines the colour and earthy flavour of turmeric with milk, fragrant spices and a little honey. This recipe is a drink to enjoy, not a treatment or disease-prevention routine.

Turmeric in this recipe

Turmeric supplies the yellow colour and an earthy note. Studies of concentrated curcumin products cannot establish the effects of this mug of golden milk. NCCIH explains the evidence and safety of turmeric products.

Honey for sweetness

Honey adds sweetness and its own floral flavour. Use the amount you enjoy, remembering that it contributes sugar. Honey-containing drinks are not suitable for babies under 12 months.

Let the drink cool to a comfortable drinking temperature before adding honey. This also lets you appreciate its aroma.

Finding a good source of turmeric and raw honey

Choose turmeric and honey from suppliers with clear ingredient and origin information.

It’s even more important to choose the right company to buy your raw honey from. Read more …. What is honey laundering? And how can you avoid fake honey?

Golden milk

A warming, fragrant drink.

Servings 1 mug

Ingredients
  • 250 ml milk either dairy or plant-based
  • a small piece of cinnamon or the tip of a teaspoon of dried cinnamon*
  • ½ tsp grated fresh ginger or ground ginger*
  • ½ -1 tsp ground turmeric
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp organic coconut oil
  • a pod or pinch of cardamom*
  • 1-2 tsp raw honey
Instructions
  1. Whisk all the ingredients together, except the raw honey, in a small saucepan. You could also do this in a heat-proof bowl and make in the microwave. Heat slowly until steam rises off the surface (don’t let it boil).
  2. Pour into a mug through a fine strainer and discard the spices.
  3. Let the milk cool until just above blood temperature (it will feel only slightly warm if you put your finger in it).
  4. Add the raw honey and stir well to mix all the turmeric in (it sinks to the bottom).
