Walk into any supermarket in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and you will find a full shelf of honey. Some jars cost AED 20, others cost ten times that, and almost all of them say "pure" or "natural" on the front. So how do you find the best honey in the UAE for you, and how do you know it is original?
The short answer: the best honey is the one whose label tells you exactly what is inside and where it came from, and whose taste you love. This guide shows you what to look for.
1. Look for a named origin, not just "pure honey"
"Pure honey" on its own tells you very little. Original, high-quality honey usually names its place: a country, a region, sometimes a single valley.
For example, Balqees Raw Yemeni Sidr Do'ani Honey comes from bees foraging on Sidr blossom in Wadi Do'an, in the Hadhramaut region of southern Yemen. Balqees White Mountain comes from wildflowers in the alpine meadows east of Lake Issyk-Kul, in Kyrgyzstan's Tien-Shan Mountains. When a brand can tell you the valley or the mountain range, it knows its source.
Be careful with vague phrases like "blend of EU and non-EU honey" or "product of several countries". That honey may be perfectly safe, but it is not single-origin.
2. Read the ingredients line
Original honey should have one ingredient: honey. Look for "100% honey" or "100% raw honey". If you see sugar syrup, glucose, corn syrup or flavourings, it is a honey product, not pure honey.
Infused honeys are different, and that is fine as long as the label is honest. Balqees Black Seed Fusion, for example, lists two ingredients: raw Yemeni Sidr Do'ani honey and crushed black seed. Nothing else.
3. Check whether it is raw
Most supermarket honey is heated and finely filtered so it stays runny on the shelf. Raw honey is not pasteurised, so it keeps more of its natural character: aroma, texture and taste. Balqees Yemeni honeys, such as Sidr Do'ani, are raw and unpasteurised. If you want to know more about how heat changes honey, read our guide to raw honey without heating in the UAE.
4. Don't fear crystallisation
Many people in the UAE think honey that turns solid or grainy is fake or spoiled. Usually the opposite is true. Crystallisation is a natural process, and raw honey often crystallises over time, especially in an air-conditioned kitchen.
Some honeys, like White Mountain, are naturally creamy and crystallised. Others, like Sidr, stay thick and runny for longer. If you prefer a softer texture, put the closed jar in warm water for a few minutes. More tips are in our honey storage guide.
5. Be careful with home "purity tests"
You will find many videos about testing honey with water, a flame or a thumb. These tests are not reliable: real honey can fail them and adulterated honey can pass. A clear label, a named origin and a brand you can contact are better signs. For more on this, read how to check honey authenticity.
6. Choose by taste, not just by price
The best honey is also the one you will enjoy every day. Different flowers give very different flavours:
- Sidr Do'ani: rich and aromatic, with caramel and butterscotch notes. A classic in the Gulf.
- White Mountain: intensely floral, pale and creamy. Lovely on toast.
- Black Seed Fusion: earthy, with a slightly astringent note from the seed.

Where to buy pure honey in Dubai and the UAE
You can find honey in supermarkets, souks, specialist shops and online. Wherever you buy, use the same checklist:
- Is the origin named (country and region)?
- Does the ingredients line say 100% honey?
- Does it say raw or unpasteurised?
- Is the brand easy to contact if you have a question?
- Does the description tell you the taste and texture to expect?
Founded in 2013, Balqees delivers across the UAE from balqees.com. Each product page lists the origin, ingredients and storage advice, so you can compare before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best honey in the UAE?
There is no single best honey for everyone. Look for a named origin, a 100% honey ingredients line and raw, unpasteurised processing, then choose the flavour you like. Yemeni Sidr is a long-standing favourite in the Gulf.
How can I tell if honey is original?
Check the label first: a specific origin, a single ingredient, and a brand you can contact. Home tests with water or fire are not reliable.
Is crystallised honey fake?
No. Crystallisation is natural and common in raw honey. Warm the closed jar in warm water to soften it.
Why is Yemeni Sidr honey more expensive?
It comes from remote valleys like Wadi Do'an and is traditionally harvested by nomadic beekeepers. Read more in why Yemeni honey is expensive.
